When you truly know someone, you can easily discern whether or not what is said about that person is true or fiction. If we can say that about a human being, then how much more can we say about Almighty God? Man has the capacity to lie but never GOD. Innately, we know that but the Bible in several books, makes it so clear. Here are a few to ponder on:
Book of Numbers 23:19 (NLT)
“God is not a man, so He does not lie.
He is not human, so He does not change His mind.
Has He ever spoken and failed to act?
Has He ever promised and not carried it through?”
Malachi 3:6 says:
“6 For I am the Lord, I change not;”
James 1:17 states:
“17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with Whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”
And Hebrews 6: 18 seals it:
“So God has given both His promise and His oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to Him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.”
God cannot lie
If you notice, the scriptures did not just say that God does not lie; they say He CANNOT lie. This is the impossible thing with God. In my interaction with Christians, and even in my own early time as a believer, I have established that this truth is not fixed in the hearts of many people. How can that be? For example, I know most of us have heard people profess that God may heal you sometimes and sometimes He does not and that He doesn’t heal everyone. This is the most common of the allegations that deny the truth about God. However, in the same breath, they will say that we just have to trust God. Can you truly trust someone who lies to you one minute and tells the truth another? Can you imagine the strategy behind trusting a god who tells lies? I would not know where to begin and this is so commonly reflected in the lives of God’s people. This is a chaotic way and completely separates people from the ability to be God’s masterpiece.
We can only truly live the lives God has ordained for us, if we see things through His eyes. If we think of Him as a liar then we are unable to receive from Him, the way He sees us, because without faith, it is impossible to please Him. The faith He is talking about is not the word that you hear in every conversation in the media dealing with religion. The media mixes every religion into a conundrum and calls them ‘faith-based’. The real faith comes from hearing the Word of God and is in our spirits, by the Holy Spirit.
We were given the measure of faith, the faith of the Son of God. If we do not believe God’s Word, then faith to have what He promises will not be available for us and neither will His blessings.
