Free Speech in the wrong?
God says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”(Proverbs 18:21). The power of the tongue is the choice that God gave humanity. This is one of the distinctions among His creation – He made us a speaking spirit, the only creature of this nature(Genesis 1:27; 2:7). He gave man CHOICE. However, He never left man without the knowledge of what can come with our choices.
From the garden of Eden, we saw the evidence of choice given to man. This is LOVE. Love cannot force. He also stated the benefits and consequences of choice. For example in Deuteronomy 30:19 – I call heaven and earth to witness this day against you that I have set before you life and death, the blessings and the curses; therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live . God’s will is for mankind to choose Him as The Choice for our lives. Note that He made us with the ability to choose – and choose Him – because such is the life He made us to have.
This choice extends to our speech. God made us to freely speak. If He didn’t then man would be robots. If we were not to speak freely, then He would have put a coded padlock on our mouths. The fact that we were given mouths without locks, tells us that we were made with a freedom to speak. Life and death comes from what we speak, so He instructs us to speak life. Again it is a choice. At no point did He put the power of speech in the hand of any other human being over another. Remember He never made man to have dominion over man, but to have dominion over the other created things.
The choice for eternal life is also another free choice given to man. God instructs humanity of the way to eternal life and leaves it to them to choose. He can never superimpose Himself on any person and He never will.
Now, when a Christian says “I am not a supporter of free speech”, he/she is in fact saying, “I am not a supporter of God’s ways.” Undoubtedly, this statement can only proceed from a self righteous person, who has deemed him/herself to be more righteous and more perfect than God Himself. For someone to think they should legislate conscience of human beings, it must take a very controlling mindset that is parallel to satan’s modus operandi. Of course, more often than not, such persons will be very offended by such parallelism and much akin to Job, in Job 26 – 31, he/she will blame God for such an unrighteous act of giving man the freedom to speak.
Why is this so? Such a person, wants to be judge and jury of what proceeds from a person’s mouth to adjudicate its worthiness level on the offensive spectrum. To assign another human being or beings the decider of whether or not a person offends another person or not, is simply saying we do not need the HOLY SPIRIT here.
What is the problem with this? There is none perfect except One. Additionally, we see even whilst Jesus was on earth, His words offended many. He called the Pharisees “white washed sepulchres and children of the devil.” These are words that would hurt the sinful soul that man has. Would one expect a legislation to curtail free speech because it offends another person, to legislate the Word of God? You may say nay, but it is the most obvious fact. This is exactly what would happen. Please note that there is a distinction as it relates to libel and slander, the likes of which have always been legislative.
The Truth(Gospel of Jesus Christ) often hurts people who do not want to allow it to change them. Words that exalt some people are also known to offend others. Where do you draw the line? A judge, a faulty human being, must make the decision? Is man now above God?
What goes through the mind of a Christian who speaks such folly?
Is Jesus truly Lord in such cases?
The enemy is looking to and fro for Christians who will echo his sentiments and unfortunately he has found too many.
However, truth be told, God has placed Himself in the born again believer, who has chosen to make Jesus Lord and Saviour, so that we would be oracles of God. We were called to be His mouthpiece, not the devil’s.
Before you sign on to the global, communist agenda to silence humans and make them robotic, under the self righteous guise of supporting bills that silence people, surrender the self righteousness just like Job had to do in chapters 42 and onward, and let Truth come alive. Jesus alone is the Truth and the Holy Spirit is the revealer of all Truth.
There is only ONE GOD and it is not man.
